Dr. John De Heras
Dr. John De Heras

Dr. John De Heras
Dr. John De Heras

Dr. John De Heras made many outstanding contributions to the Santa Clara Valley communities. As a natural leader, he was one of the key persons who brought Mexican-Americans into government, organizations, and clubs. This was one of his lifetime goals, which he achieved repeatedly, and whose results demonstrated that Hispanics could indeed be a positive force in the community. Even though he maintained a busy chiropractic business, he found time to become the first Mexican-American member of the State Board of Chiropractic Examiners, San Jose Planning Commission, member and chairman of the Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation. He was also the first of his ethnic background to receive the Distinguished Service Award from the United Service Organization in Santa Clara County.

Dr. De Heras was born November 26, 1911 in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico. At an early age, his family came to Los Angeles area where he studied. He graduated from Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in 1941 with a Doctor Chiropractic Degree. It was a decision he made in his youth, after he suffered a broken arm while skating. He was a certified member of the Chiropractic Orthopedist. Behind the easy going, soft spoken manner was a man whose soul had unlimited devotion to the task of improving his community, and the knowledge of high standards, which he established by his participation in civic affairs. While he was involved in all these activities, he generated a tremendous amount of enthusiasm in the hearts of other Hispanics to also participate in civic affairs as well. His life’s activities will serve as an outstanding role model for future generations.
