“As we look ahead to the coming budget year, we will do more to ensure the economic health and vitality of San Jose.” Photo by Mary J. Andrade ![]() San Jose, CA — San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed said in a statement, “I am delighted to see the increase in jobs here in Santa Clara County over the past month. The announcement that the state unemployment rate is holding steady at 6.2 percent, the news that we’ve added 2,100 jobs locally and have an unemployment rate 1 percentage point lower than the statewide average is good news for local residents.” “In 2002 alone, Silicon Valley lost more than 10 percent of its jobs. During the downturn, it had a net loss of 220,000 jobs.” “As part of San Jose’s Green Vision, I have committed to help create 25,000 jobs in the Clean Tech sector in San Jose. We are seeing great growth in our driving industries, especially in the Clean Tech sector, which includes solar and other clean energies. San Jose is home to a number of growing Clean Tech companies, including SunPower, Fat Spaniel, Bay Biodiesel, Stion, Nanosolar, and SoloPower. Many of these Clean Tech jobs, especially in areas such as solar installation, are quality green collar jobs that can’t be outsourced overseas.” “Since taking office last year, I have met with more than 80 Silicon Valley CEOs with a single message: the City of San Jose wants you to stay here and grow here. They are responding with enthusiasm, investments, and jobs. As we look ahead to the coming budget year, we will do more to ensure the economic health and vitality of San Jose.” |
