![]() Students were recognized for their academic achievements. San Jose, CA — 140 East Side Union High School District students who participated in Pre-College Programs (PCP) during high school were recognized for completing the program during the “PCP Class of 2008 Senior Commencement.” PCP Counselors organized a commencement ceremony inside the University Room at San Jose State University on Friday, May 30, 2008 for students and their families. After the ceremony students were treated to an elegant dinner at The Grill located at the Fairmont Hotel. Ana Antonio, PCP Class of 2002, who after completing the program continued her education at UC Santa Barbara and graduated in 2007, was invited to be the keynote speaker at the commencement. After Antonio’s inspirational speech a video followed highlighting students experience throughout the program. Following the video was the scholarship giveaway. The Parent Empowerment Council, which consists of a few parents, organized several fundraising events all year to award seven students with scholarships. PCP also awarded an additional four students with scholarships. Once the scholarship recipients were announced PCP Counselors presented students with a “Certificate of Excellence.” Seniors who completed the program received a variety of services throughout high school such as daily after-school tutoring, academic counseling, college application assistance, workshops, college tours and much more. The services and the support the counselors provide have helped motivate students to maintain their grades and never forget that their goal in high school is to graduate and go to college.
